Amazon.com’s current hub is the Pacific Medical Center in Seattle, a 16-story art deco tower that once housed a veterans’ hospital and public health center. Visitors should check out the Amazon reception area just inside the front doors. It houses a collection of framed Amazon magazine covers, including Barron’s infamous “Amazon.bomb” cover from 1999, as well as other company memorabilia on the walls and behind glass cases. Amazon will soon be leaving the iconic orange brick building on Beacon Hill. The company is having a new headquarters campus built in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood, and will start moving employees there in phases starting in 2010.

HQ is still on beacon hill until all of Amazon is consolidated in South Lake Union (at least until 2011)

They recently moved their HQ to 1516 2nd Avenue , Seattle, WA 98101 which is 1 block West of Pike Place. Far less impressive IMO.

The PacMed building was originally three stories taller. The uppermost floors were damaged in the 2001 Nisqually earthquake (28 Feb 2001, 10:54am PST), while Amazon occupied the space. Repair was judged too expensive so the floors were removed.
